ACRYLIC PAINTS
Published on 17-12-2024There are water-based acrylic paints and solvent-based paints.
Acrylic Paints (water-based):
Vallejo, Revell Aqua, Lifecolor, ...
These are the most commonly used acrylic paints, they flow very well, dry quickly, and provide a great finish when using an airbrush.
Tool and brush cleaning can be done with water (using a cleaner is still recommended for more thorough cleaning).
Vallejo's Model Air paints are ready to use with an airbrush (though some modelers still dilute them), and Vallejo's Model Color paints are intended for brush use; they can also be used with an airbrush but need to be diluted first.
Acrylic Paints (solvent-based):
Tamiya or Mr Hobby Color.
Their dilution should be done with the brand's specific thinner (for both brush and airbrush use).
Recommendations
For brush use, diluting with the brand's thinner helps achieve better homogeneity. For airbrush use, the brand's thinner (or flow improver) is strongly recommended.
A primer is recommended to allow the paint to adhere better. For the best result, we recommend using the brand's varnish or at least one of the same type. Varnish is recommended for acrylic paints.
Acrylic paints are not compatible with Enamel or Lacquer paints.
Tip
It is better to wash your sprues in warm soapy water, rinse well, and let them dry. It is also a good idea to apply the paint before assembly. This way, even the smallest corners are easily accessible.
